Revert "policy: track the autoconnect retries in devices for multi-connect"
With multi-connect enabled, this can cause infinite retries to autoconnect,
see [1].

That has bad consequences for example in initrd, where
nm-wait-online-initrd.service would wait up to one hour before failing
and blocking boot.

This reverts commit 1656d82045.

core: support flag "preserve-external-ip" for Reapply() call
Reapply() is supposed to make sure that the system (the interface)
is configured as indicated by the applied-connection. That means,
it will remove/add configuration to make the system match the requested
configuration.

Add a flag "preserve-external-ip" which relaxes this. During reapply,
IP addresses/routes that exist on the interface and which are not known
(or added) by NetworkManager will be left alone.

This will be used by nm-cloud-setup, so that it can reconfigure the
interface in a less destructive way, which does not conflict with
external `ip addr/route` calls.

Note that the previous commit just adds "VersionInfo" and the
possibility to expose capabilities (patch-level). This is not used
for the new reapply flag, because, while we might backport the
reapply flag, we won't backport the "VersionInfo" property. Exposing
new capabilities via the "VersionInfo" property will only become useful
in the future, where we can backport a capability to older NM versions
(but those that have "VersionInfo" too).

device: change error code for Reapply() rejecting unsupported flags argument
Changing an error code is an API change. But, so far no flags existed,
so it's unlikely that somebody would send invalid flags or care about
the return code.

9131829f7b veth: fix detection of existing interfaces in create_and_realize()
The current implementation only checks that a device with name equal
to veth.peer exists and it has a parent device; it doesn't check that
its parent is actually the device we want to create. So for example,
if the profile specifies interface-name A and peer B, while in
platform we have a veth pair {B,C}, we'll skip the interface creation
and the device will remain without a ifindex, leading to a crash
later. Fix this by adding the missing check.

While at it, don't implement the check by inspecting NMDevices but
look directly at the platform cache; that seems more robust because
devices are often updated from platform events via idle handlers and
so the information there could be outdated.

fe42644fcd macsec: fix tracking of parent ifindex
For MACsec interfaces, kernel announces the parent ifindex in the
generic IFLA_LINK netlink attribute, which we save in
NMPlatformLink.parent. There is no need to have a dedicate member in
NMPlatformLnkMacsec.

The dedicate member was never set and during a restart of
NetworkManager the parent of the MACsec device could be unset leading
to a failed assertion:

  act_stage2_config: assertion 'parent' failed

core: fix out-of-bounds for nm_utils_get_ipv6_interface_identifier()
For link type NM_LINK_TYPE_6LOWPAN, nm_utils_get_ipv6_interface_identifier()
expects 8 bytes hardware address. It even just accesses the buffer
without checking (that needs to be fixed too).

For 6lowpan devices, the caller might construct a fake ethernet MAC
address, which is only 6 bytes long. So wrong.

device: use correct field "l3cfg_" to clear in dispose()
The fields "l3cfg" and "l3cfg_" are union aliases. One of them is const,
the other is not. The idea is that all places that modify the field need
to use the special name "l3cfg_", and grepping for that will lead you to
all the relevant places.

This mistake happened, because g_clear_object() casts constness away.

51062305dd device: fix missing transition from UNAVAILABLE to DISCONNECTED
When called with update_carrier=TRUE, nm_device_bring_up_full() checks
for carrier changes and it may queue a transition to DISCONNECTED
through the following call chain:

 -> nm_device_bring_up_full()
   -> nm_device_set_carrier_from_platform()
     -> nm_device_set_carrier()
       -> carrier_changed()
         -> nm_device_queue_state()

In _set_state_full(state=UNAVAILABLE) after bringing the interface up
we also call nm_device_cleanup() which clears the enqueued state
change to DISCONNECTED. When this happens, the device remains in
UNAVAILABLE and never gets activated even if it was ready.

This was observed with macsec interfaces, but in theory can happen
with all those interfaces that get carrier immediately after being
brought up.

Avoid this issue by not checking the carrier synchronously from
_set_state_full(). The carrier change event will be processed in the
next asynchronous invocation of device_link_changed().

738e41cd3e device: add nm_device_bring_up_full()
In the next commit nm_device_bring_up() will be extended with a new
argument. Most callers just want to bring up the device synchronously
and don't care about the "no_firmware" argument. Introduce a
nm_device_bring_up_full() for callers that need special behavior.

0a43082efa team: set port configuration even if it's empty
Call teamdctl_port_config_update_raw() when we're attaching a port even
if all of team-slave setting properties are default.

This is done to ensure teamd "knows" about the port (that is,
"teamdctl ...  port present" returns success) when we're done activating
the slave connection. It will pick it up anyway from netlink, but that
can happen after the activation is done, resulting in a possible race.

bcf11ebead team: restore port configuration after teamd respawn
If teamd crashes, we restore it. That's very nice, but if it really
crashed then it left ports attached and the slave connections are not
going to fail and the port configuration (e.g. priority or link watcher) in
teamd's memory will be gone.

This will restore the port configuration when the teamd connection is
re-established. This probably also fixes a race where a slave connection
would be enslaved (only possible externally and manually?) while we
didn't establish a connection to teamd yet. We'll just send the port
configuration in once're connected.

core: filter out invalid Wake-On-Lan flags
NMSettingWired does not reject invalid flags. Filter them out in wake_on_lan_enable().
In practice, it makes no difference, the unknown flags were ignored anyway.

f9db4f4604 Revert "device: restart DHCP when the MAC changes"
The commit causes problems with bridges. When a new port is attached
the MAC of the bridge possibly changes and if we restart DHCP the
bridge will get a different IP address.

Revert the change until a better solution to the original problem is
found.

310e0d259f policy: track the autoconnect retries in devices for multi-connect
For connections with multi-connect property set to "multiple", the
autoconnect-retries should be tracked per device and not per connection.
That means, if autoconnect-retries is set to 2, each device using that
connection should retry to autoconnect 2 times.

The device autoconnect retries is -2 by default. This is a special
value, in NMPolicy context, if the connection used is multi-connect the
device value will be set to match the connection retries. Each time the
device picks a different connection, it will reset the device
autoconnect retries to -2 and if needed, sync. with the connection
retries.

f702be2992 ovs: wait that links disappear during initial cleanup
At startup, we remove from ovsdb any existing interface created by NM
and later an interface with the same name might be readded. This can
cause race conditions. Consider this series of events:

1. at startup NM removes the entry from ovsdb;
2. ovsdb reports success;
3. NM inserts an interface with the same name again;
4. ovs-vswitch monitors ovsdb changes, and gets events for removal and
   insertion. Depending on how those events are split in different
   batches, it might decide:
   4a. to delete the link and add it back, or
   4b. to keep the existing link because the delete and insertion
       cancel out each other.

When NM sees the link staying in platform, it doesn't know if it's
because of 4b or because 4a will happen eventually.

To avoid this ambiguity, after ovsdb reports the successful deletion
NM should also wait that the link disappears from platform.

Unfortunately, this means that ovsdb gets a dependency to the platform
code.

If the controller fails while the port is not yet fully attached,
before this patch the following happened:

Commit 1fe8166fc9 ('device: only deactivate when the master we've

bond: use _nm_setting_bond_opt_value_as_intbool() in _platform_lnk_bond_init_from_setting()
Previously, we used _nm_utils_ascii_str_to_bool(). That can accept any
kind of input (like "true"), so one might think that this is better to
use on user-input. However, NMSettingBond already validates the these
options are integers (either "0" or "1"). So a value like "true"
could never be here.

Use _nm_setting_bond_opt_value_as_intbool() because that asserts that
the option if of the expected type (integer).

firewall/trivial: rename nm_firewall_config_apply() to nm_firewall_config_apply_sync()
Sync/blocking methods are ugly. Their name should highlight this.
Also, we may have an async variant, so we will need the "good" name
for apply() and apply_finish().

65d31a11f8 veth: drop iface peer check during create_and_realize()
When fetching the parent device, if the system is slow, NetworkManager
can hit a race condition where the property is still NULL. In that case,
NetworkManager should create the veth link.

Checking that the peer device exists, it is type NM_DEVICE_TYPE_VETH and
it have a parent device is enough to know that we can skip the link
creation.

device: don't ignore external slave removals
We've been outright ignoring master-slave checks if the link ended up
without a master since commit 2e22880894 ('device: don't remove the
device from master if its link has no master').

This was done to deal with OpenVSwitch port-interface relationship,
where the interface's platform link lacked an actual master in platform
(what matters there is the OVSDB entry), but the fix was too wide.

Let's limit the special case to devices whose were not enslaved to
masters that lack a platform link, which pretty much happens for
OpenVSwitch only.

1ba916915d bond: fix primary bond option when the link is not present
Bond option netlink support requires primary property to be a ifindex
instead of the interface name. This is a workaround for supporting
specifying a primary that does not exist yet.

bdaba47a68 device: don't emit recheck-assume if there is a queued activation request
The @dracut_NM_vlan_over_team_no_boot sometimes fails, among other
things, because it fails to assume an indicated connection after a
restart.

That seems to happen because after the decision to activate the
indicated connection, the device does not move from DISCONNECTED state
quickly enough. Another assumption recheck runs in between and decides
to generate a connection, because the assume state was already reset
in between.

First start, creates and activates b3a61b68-f744-4a4c-a513-61399c154a67
on vlan0017:

I think this shouldn't have happened. We've picked the correct
connection already and it's enqueued for activation!

Change the check in nm_device_emit_recheck_assume() to also consider
any queued activation.

device: restart DHCP when the MAC changes
If the MAC changes there is the possibility that the DHCP client will
not be able to renew the address because it uses the old MAC as
CHADDR. Depending on the implementation, the DHCP server might use
CHADDR (so, the old address) as the destination MAC for DHCP replies,
and those packets will be lost.

To avoid this problem, restart the DHCP client when the MAC changes.

mptcp: rework "connection.mptcp-flags" for enabling MPTCP
1) The "enabled-on-global-iface" flag was odd. Instead, have only
and "enabled" flag and skip (by default) endpoints on interface
that have no default route. With the new flag "also-without-default-route",
this can be overruled. So previous "enabled-on-global-default" now is
the same as "enabled", and "enabled" from before behaves now like
"enabled,also-without-default-route".

2) What was also odd, as that the fallback default value for the flags
depends on "/proc/sys/net/mptcp/enabled". There was not one fixed
fallback default, instead the used fallback value was either
"enabled-on-global-iface,subflow" or "disabled".
Usually that is not a problem (e.g. the default value for
"ipv6.ip6-privacy" also depends on use_tempaddr sysctl). In this case
it is a problem, because the mptcp-flags (for better or worse) encode
different things at the same time.
Consider that the mptcp-flags can also have their default configured in
"NetworkManager.conf", a user who wants to switch the address flags
could previously do:

  connection.mptcp-flags=0x32   # enabled-on-global-iface,signal,subflow

but then the global toggle "/proc/sys/net/mptcp/enabled" was no longer
honored. That means, MPTCP handling was always on, even if the sysctl was
disabled. Now, "enabled" means that it's only enabled if the sysctl
is enabled too. Now the user could write to "NetworkManager.conf"

  [connection.mptcp]
  connection.mptcp-flags=0x32   # enabled,signal,subflow

and MPTCP handling would still be disabled unless the sysctl
is enabled.

There is now also a new flag "also-without-sysctl", so if you want
to really enable MPTCP handling regardless of the sysctl, you can.
The point of that might be, that we still can configure endpoints,
even if kernel won't do anything with them. Then you could just flip
the sysctl, and it would start working (as NetworkManager configured
the endpoints already).

glib-aux: rework random number utils
Heavily inspired by systemd ([1]).

We now also have nm_random_get_bytes{,_full}() and
nm_random_get_crypto_bytes(), like systemd's random_bytes()
and crypto_random_bytes(), respectively.

Differences:

- instead of systemd's random_bytes(), our nm_random_get_bytes_full()
  also estimates whether the output is of high quality. The caller
  may find that interesting. Due to that, we will first try to call
  getrandom(GRND_NONBLOCK) before getrandom(GRND_INSECURE). That is
  reversed from systemd's random_bytes(), because we want to find
  out whether we can get good random numbers. In most cases, kernel
  should have entropy already, and it makes no difference.

Otherwise, heavily rework the code. It should be easy to understand
and correct.

There is also a major bugfix here. Previously, if getrandom() failed
with ENOSYS and we fell back to /dev/urandom, we would assume that we
have high quality random numbers. That assumption is not warranted.
Now instead poll on /dev/random to find out.

5b7f8f3f70 device: wait for carrier even if it wasn't us who brought the device IFF_UP
The devices generally need to be IFF_UP and wait a little before the
carrier detection is reliable. Some devices, actually need to wait
more than a little -- r8169 needs up to 5 seconds.

For this reason, we delay startup complete while the carrier is down
after we bring the device up. We do this so that we don't reject
activations due to carrier down until we're sure it's really down.
This works well as long as it's us who brought the device up.

If we're restarting the daemon, the device is going to be already up
when we start up the daemon for the second time. There's, however, a
slim chance that the device was brought down and up very shortly before
the restart and therefore the carrier reporting is still not reliable.
As a matter of fact, we bring the devices down and back up on some
occassions, such as when enslaving to a team device.

Therefore, the following events in quick succession cause trouble:

Let's wait whenever the device reaches unavailable state, whether we
bring it up at that point or not.
