Up to now, the "include" directory contained (only) header files that were
used project-wide by libs, core, clients, et al.
Since the directory now also contains a non-header file, the "include"
name is misleading. Instead of adding yet another directory that is
project-wide, with non-header-only content, rename the "include"
directory to "shared".
For libnm library, "nm-dbus-interface.h" contains defines like the D-Bus
paths of NetworkManager. It is desirable to have this header usable without
having a dependency on "glib.h", for example for a QT application. For that,
commit c0852964a8 removed that dependancy.
For libnm-glib library, the analog to "nm-dbus-interface.h" is
"NetworkManager.h", and the same applies there. Commit
159e827a72 removed that include.
However, that broke build on PackageKit [1] which expected to get the
version macros by including "NetworkManager.h". So at least for libnm-glib,
we need to preserve old behavior so that a user including
"NetworkManager.h" gets the version macros, but not "glib.h".
Extract the version macros to a new header file "nm-version-macros.h".
This header doesn't include "glib.h" and can be included from
"NetworkManager.h". This gives as previous behavior and a glib-free
include.
For libnm we still don't include "nm-version-macros.h" to "nm-dbus-interface.h".
Very few users will actually need the version macros, but not using
libnm.
Users that use libnm, should just include (libnm's) "NetworkManager.h" to
get all headers.
As a special case, a user who doesn't want to use glib/libnm, but still
needs both "nm-dbus-interface.h" and "nm-version-macros.h", can include
them both separately.

Fixes: 4545a7fe96
After copying "nm-vpn-plugin-old.*" to "nm-vpn-service-plugin.*",
rename the class and add it to the Makefile.
This will become the new VPN Service API for libnm 1.2. No changes
done yet except renaming of the classes and functions.
Rename the previous classes NMVpnPlugin(Old) to NMVpnServicePlugin
to have a distinct name from NMVpnEditorPlugin. Buth are plugins, but
with a different use.
https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=749951
Split the content of libnm/nm-vpn-editor-plugin.h and
move NMVpnEditorPlugin to libnm-core/nm-vpn-editor-plugin.h.
VPN plugins allow us to extend functionality about VPNs.
This can be also useful for NetworkManager core, hence
move that part to libnm-core.
The name NMVpnEditorPlugin is slightly misleading but not completely
wrong. The "editor" part stands no longer for bringing nm-applet
functionality (alone), but enable general VPN functionality in
the client.
Especially because we already have NMVpnPluginOld with a different
meaning (i.e. a base class of the plugin server implementation).
The newly added bond mode APIs in nm-utils will be new in 1.2, so mark
them as such in the headers and docs, move them to a new section in
libnm.ver.
Since we're adding the new section to libnm.ver, this also seems like
a good time to bump the soname.
Now that nm-setting-docs.xml is more D-Bus-specific, it's less
appropriate for nmcli's internal documentation. So generate a second
copy of the docs without using the overrides file, and use that one
for nmcli's documentation.
Add "---dbus---" sections to the NMSetting property docs, in the same
style as the plugin docs, parse them out into a file
"nm-setting-docs-overrides.xml", and use them to override the GObject
property docs in nm-setting-docs.xml.
This lets us put more D-Bus-specific information in the setting docs,
without cluttering up the property docs, and it also lets us document
dbus-only properties.
Move the settings/plugins doc generation from libnm-util to
libnm-core, since libnm-util isn't being updated for all new
properties.
With this commit, the keyfile and ifcfg-rh documentation is basically
unchanged, except that deprecated properties are now gone, and new
properties have been added, and the sections are in a different order.
(generate-plugin-docs.pl just outputs the settings in Makefile order,
and they were unsorted in libnm-util, but are sorted in libnm-core).
The settings documentation used for nm-settings.5, the D-Bus API docs,
and the nmcli help is changed a bit more at this point, and mostly for
the worse, since the libnm-core setting properties don't match up with
the D-Bus API as well as the libnm-util ones do. To be fixed...
(I also removed the "plugins docs" line in each plugin docs comment
block while moving them, since those blocks will be used for more than
just plugins soon, and it's sort of obvious anyway.)
Rename NMVpnPluginUiInterface to NMVpnEditorPlugin (to clarify that
it's unrelated to NMVpnPlugin), and add it to NetworkManager.h.
Rename NMVpnPluginUiWidgetInterface to NMVpnEditor, because it's not a
widget, and will soon be used for non-gui editing too. (Also, add a
placeholder for the method that non-gui editing will use.)
Fix the typedefs to not mix up the (dummy) NMVpnEditorPlugin and
NMVpnEditor types with the types of their interface structs. Update to
use G_DEFINE_INTERFACE.
Drop NMVpnPluginUiInterfaceProp; it doesn't matter what codes plugin
implementations use for the interface properties that they implement.
Create NMIPConfig as the parent of NMIP4Config and NMIP6Config, and
remove the two subclasses from the public API; while it's convenient
to still have both internally, they are now identical to the outside
world.
The new VPN plugin API will hopefully simplify some the the tasks that
are currently handled by nm-vpn-plugin-utils functions, so make those
functions explicitly be part of the "old" API. (If we still want them
in the new API we can just move them back out, and have the "_old_"
versions just be wrappers around the undeprecated ones.)
Rename libnm's NMVpnPlugin to NMVpnPluginOld, in preparation for
having a new-and-improved NMVpnPlugin in NM 1.2. Also remove it from
NM-1.0.gir.
Make nm-vpn-plugin-old.h be separately includable, since it's not
included from NetworkManager.h, and we probably don't want it to be.
Remove NMVpnPlugin, NMVpnPluginUiInterface, and nm-vpn-plugin-utils
from the docs, since they're basically undocumented anyway.
Port libnm-core/libnm to GDBus.
The NetworkManager daemon continues to use dbus-glib; the
previously-added connection hash/variant conversion methods are now
moved to NetworkManagerUtils (along with a few other utilities that
are now only needed by the daemon code).
There's not much point in keeping them separate: all existing
libnm-glib-vpn users also link against libnm-glib, and the amount of
extra code added to libnm by merging in libnm-vpn is negligible.
Additionally, nm-vpn-plugin will later need access to some
libnm-internal APIs.
So, merge them together.
The docs for NMIP4Config:addresses and NMIP4Config:routes claimed that
they were GPtrArrays of NMIP4Address/NMIP4Route, but get_property()
was actually trying to set them the D-Bus representation type, and it
was failing anyway because it used g_value_set_boxed() on a parameter
that was declared GParamSpecPointer. Fix it to use a GPtrArray-valued
property, and set it to the right thing.
NMIP6Config did the right thing with its :addresses and :routes
properties, but was using custom types (NM_TYPE_IP6_ADDRESS_OBJECT_ARRAY and
NM_TYPE_IP6_ROUTE_OBJECT_ARRAY). Make it use G_TYPE_PTR_ARRAY instead.
nm-types.c, nm-types.h, and nm-types-private.h are now empty, and so
can be dropped.
Add NetworkManager.h, which includes all of the other NM header, and
require all external users of libnm to use that rather than the
individual headers.
(An exception is made for nm-dbus-interface.h,
nm-vpn-dbus-interface.h, and nm-version.h, which can be included
separately.)
This fixes up the code from the previous "clean" import, and adds
build infrastructure.
[There are two slightly orthogonal sets of changes in this patch.
First, the files added in the previous commit were modified as followed:
# Replace internal references to "libnm-util" and "libnm-glib" with "libnm"
perl -pi -e 's/libnm-(util|glib)/libnm/;' libnm-core/*.[ch] libnm-core/tests/*.[ch] libnm/*.[ch] libnm/tests/*.[ch]
# Fix includes of the enum-types files
perl -pi -e 's/nm-utils-enum-types/nm-core-enum-types/;' libnm-core/*.[ch] libnm-core/tests/*.[ch] libnm/*.[ch] libnm/tests/*.[ch]
perl -pi -e 's/nm-glib-enum-types/nm-enum-types/;' libnm/*.[ch] libnm/tests/*.[ch]
# Fix some python example code
perl -pi -e 's/import NMClient/import NM/;' -e 's/NMClient.Client\(\)/NM.Client()/;' libnm/nm-client.c
Then, the build infrastructure was added (without further modifying
any existing files in libnm-core or libnm.)
Note: to regenerate libnm.ver after rebase:
(head -2 libnm-util/libnm-util.ver; (grep -h '\s'nm_ libnm-util/libnm-util.ver libnm-glib/libnm-glib.ver | env LANG=C sort); tail -3 libnm-util/libnm-util.ver) > libnm/libnm.ver
