a0482a4e35 core: nm-dns-dnsmasq: listen on ipv6 localhost too
Trying to resolve hosts using localhost errors out for ipv6 attempts:
  $ host www.seznam.cz localhost
;; communications error to ::1#53: connection refused
;; communications error to ::1#53: connection refused
  Using domain server:
  Name: localhost
  Address: 127.0.0.1#53
  Aliases:

  www.seznam.cz has address 77.75.77.222
  www.seznam.cz has address 77.75.79.222
;; communications error to ::1#53: connection refused
;; communications error to ::1#53: connection refused
  www.seznam.cz has IPv6 address 2a02:598:a::79:222
  www.seznam.cz has IPv6 address 2a02:598:2::1222
;; communications error to ::1#53: connection refused
;; communications error to ::1#53: connection refused

It's because on some distros (like openSUSE), localhost is defined both
as 127.0.0.1 and ::1.

So listen on ::1 too. This makes ipv4-switchoff easier.
/etc/resolv.conf should likely be updated to contain ::1 eventually too
(see update_dns()).

2d438ebef8 dns: specify a temporary file name when writing no-stub-resolv.conf
Using g_file_set_contents() makes it impossible to write a proper
SELinux policy because the function creates a file with a random
suffix, and SELinux file transitions can't match on wildcards.

Use a fixed temporary file name. In this case it's fine because
/run/NetworkManager is only writable by root and NetworkManager is the
only process writing into it.

1cba0a3cca dns: make [global-dns] to overwrite configs from connections
According to the documentation, settings from [global-dns] (searches and
options) are always merged with those from connections. However this was
not happening if no [global-dns-domain-*] exists, in which case
connections were ignored. This happened because in the past both global
sections must de defined or undefined. When this was changed to allow
defining only [global-dns], allowing it in the function that generates
the resolv.conf file was forgotten. Fix that now.

Anyway, merging these configs doesn't make much sense. The searches and
options defined in connections probably make sense only for the nameservers
defined in that same connection.

Because of this, make the following change: if global nameservers are
defined, use searches and options from [global-dns] only, because those
defined in connections may not make sense for the global nameservers. If
[global-dns] is missing, assume an empty [global-dns] section.

Also, if no global nameservers are defined, but [global-dns] is, make
that it overwrites the searches and options defined in connections. This
is not ideal, but none of the alternatives is better and at least this
is easy to remember.

So, the resulting rules from above are:
- If [global-dns] is defined, it always overwrite searches and options
  from connections.
- If [global-dns-domain-*] is defined, it always overwrite nameservers
from connections. It overwrites searches and options too.

5e18da31a4 dnsconfd: drop "connection-*" entries from the update method
Stop passing "connection-*" entries in the update method to
dnsconfd. The plugin tries to determine the connection from the
ifindex, but it's not possible to do it right at the moment because
the same ifindex can be used at the same time e.g. by a policy-based
VPN like ipsec and a normal device. Instead, it should be NM that
explicitly passes the information about the connection to the DNS
plugin. Anyway, these variables are not used at the moment by
dnsconfd.

b8714e86e4 dns: introduce configuration_serial support to the dnsconfd plugin
"configuration_serial" dbus property ensures that the plugin
can mark update 'not pending' when the update is trully finished.
This mechanism exists because of underlying problem of having
to restart, or perform similarly time consuming operation, to change
certain configuration parameters of resolver. If Dnsconfd would
block the update call until the update is finished, we could not
respond to any other requests until the call is finished.

7447c1c202 dns: add options to control automatic addition of edns0 and trust-ad
Options "edns0" and "trust-ad" are automatically added when using
caching plugins such as dnsmasq and systemd-resolved. In some cases,
those options can break resolution due to non-conforming resolvers,
and there is no way to disable them.

Introduce new options "_no-add-edns0" and "_no-add-trust-ad" to
prevent the automatic addition of "edns0" and "trust-ad". The initial
underscore indicates that the option is internal and is not written
into resolv.conf.

dns/dnsmasq: do not use --dnssec-proxy by default
dnsmasq since 2.80 properly forwards all incoming queries with DO bit
set. That ensures even if the dnsmasq does not do validation, it will
always serve all DNSSEC records if the upstream server provides them.
Regardless local validation is enabled or disabled, it will always offer
all data required for validation to its clients.
But does not set AD bit on local responses unless it did the actual
validation itself.

In case users trust their connection to validating DNS server, they
would have to declare it by adding dnssec-proxy option to dnsmasq conf.d
directory. Because there is no negated no-dnssec-proxy, it cannot be
turned off. I think there is no good reason to be on for all cases and
it would be possible to enable it if still wanted. Move the decision to
the user.

That makes it conform with RFC 4035, paragraph 3.2.3.

dns: generate correct search domain for hostnames on non-public TLD
dns-manager uses the Mozilla Public Suffix List to determine an
appropriate search domain when generating /etc/resolv.conf. It is
presumed that if the hostname is "example.com", the user does not want
to automatically search "com" for unqualified hostnames, which is
reasonable. To implement that, prior to the fix, domain_is_valid()
implicitly used the PSL "prevailing star rule", which had the
consequence of assuming that any top-level domain (TLD) is public
whether it is on the official suffix list or not. That meant
"example.local" or "example.localdomain" would not result in searching
"local" or "localdomain" respectively, but rather /etc/resolv.conf would
contain the full hostname "example.local" as the search domain and not
give users what they expect. The fix here uses the newer PSL API
function that allows us to turn off the "prevailing star rule" so that
"local" and "localdomain" are NOT considered public TLDs because they
are not literally on the suffix list. That in turn gives us the search
domain "local" or "localdomain" in /etc/resolv.conf and allows
unqualified hostname lookups "e.g., resolvectl query example" to find
example.local while example.com still maintains the previous behavior
(i.e., search domain of "example.com" rather than "com").

4d75c43f1a dns-manager: always apply options from [global-dns]
Currently, the use of [global-dns] section for setting DNS options is
conditioned on presence of a nameserver in a [global-dns-domain-*] section.
Attempt to use the section for options alone results in an error:

  [global-dns]
  options=timeout:1

Or via D-Bus API:

  # busctl set-property org.freedesktop.NetworkManager \
      /org/freedesktop/NetworkManager org.freedesktop.NetworkManager \
      GlobalDnsConfiguration 'a{sv}' 2 \
          "options" as 1 "timeout:1" \
          "domains" a{sv} 0
  ...

manager: set global DNS failed with error: Global
DNS configuration is missing the default domain

The insistence on existence of [global-dns-domain-*] would make sense if
other [global-dns-domain-...] sections were present.

However, the user might only want to set the options in resolv.conf and
still use connection-provide nameservers for the actual resolving.

Lift the limitation by allowing the [global-dns] to be used alone, while
still insist on [global-dns-domain-*] being there in presence of other
domain-specific options.

Note that we cannot just blindly replace &g_array_index() with
